As principal and founder of O’Malley Productions, Sean O’Malley is living his dream – creating compelling television from documentaries and specials on History Channel, Fine Living and PBS to highly rated series like Food Network’s Kid in a Candy Store.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Sean O’Malley brings a unique cultural perspective to every one of his television projects. He began in his hometown as a writer and producer and was responsible for numerous award winning programs and documentaries.

Upon moving to Los Angeles, Sean immediately put his talents to work on programming for networks such as TLC, Travel Channel and Discovery Health. As the writer, supervising producer and director of Mardi Gras Cops, a one-hour special for the Travel Channel, Sean applied his extensive knowledge of both documentary production and the Crescent City to produce a gripping, fast paced program that was described by the network as an “outstanding hour – skillfully, shot written and edited.”

Sean served as a producer for two seasons on Mostly True Stories: Urban Legends Revealed, a weekly series for TLC, hosted by Natasha Henstridge. Sean also wrote and co-produced Inside the Million Dollar Blackjack Tournament for Travel Channel’s popular “Secrets” series. Following up on the success of the blackjack show, Sean wrote and produced Vegas Challenge, a five-part competition series that aired in tandem with Travel Channel’s highly rated World Poker Tour.

Some of Sean’s other Discovery credits include Quints: The First Year, a Discovery Health special about families with quintuplets and Untold Stories of the ER for TLC.

In 2005, Sean started his own production company, focused on producing stylistic reality, lifestyle and documentary programming. That same year he executive produced, wrote and directed the one-hour special Raising The Bar: America’s Best Bar Chefs for Fine Living Network and executive produced Russian Roswell for History Channel.

In 2006 and 2007, O’Malley Productions produced 11 episodes of the series The Hungry Detective for Food Network. The Hungry Detective took a bit of reality, a bit of a cop show and the essence of a tasty food show to create a gritty look inside the best “off-the-beaten path” restaurants across America.

In 2008, O’Malley Productions produced the award winning PBS documentary Fats Domino: Walking Back to New Orleans. The one-hour documentary, narrated by John Goodman, chronicles the music legend’s triumphant return to the stage two years after being rescued from the rising waters of Hurricane Katrina.  Later that year, O’Malley Productions created and produced Extreme Sweets for Food Network, hosted by Food Network Star’s Adam Gertler. In 2009 O’Malley Productions and Gertler collaborated on three more one-hour specials for FLN: Freakiest Foods, Freakiest Vacations and Freakiest Festivals.

O’Malley Productions produced several seasons of Food Network’s, Kid in a Candy Store. Hosted by Adam Gertler, the colorful series introduces you to the people and places creating one-of-a-kind confections. Viewers journey through the factories and tasting rooms of the likes of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, M&Ms, Donut Plant and many more mouthwatering destinations across the U.S. to see how their favorite candies and desserts are made.

In 2013 O’Malley Productions was hand picked by Travel Channel to revitalize and reformat the franchise Food Paradise.  Since then O’Malley has produced over 30 episodes of this fun food and travel experience. In 2015, O’Malley Productions teamed up with pop star EdwinMcCain and his new band of quirky boat builders to produce the Animal Planet series Flipping Ships.

Sean graduated from Loyola University, New Orleans with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife Jeannine and their twins Elizabeth and Charlie.
